Oct 3, 2016 - Admission

3,000 international students from 52 countries have entered Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) in 2016-2017 academic year. The leading HE institution of the region is rapidly gaining popularity in the world and enhances its international competitiveness, consistently performing development indicators under the 5top100 National Project. In the past academic year, the University enrolled 2,500 international students from 49 countries.

A key indicator of the growing demand for FEFU on the global educational market is a significant increase in the number of international students in higher education programs. According to the information from the Vice President for International Relations Office, the FEFU Schools enrolled more than 1,000 freshmen from abroad. Plus about 900 students were enrolled in the Preparatory Department and language courses in the Center of Russian Language and Culture; a mass student admission was carried out to the University's Russian Language Training Centers.

The geography of international students, having chosen to study at FEFU in the new academic year, expanded to 52 countries. The vast majority of them—56% of all international students—are from the Asia-Pacific region. The leaders are China, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam, to which India and Colombia have joined due to active international recruitment. Australian, United Kingdom, and Bolivian nationals were admitted to FEFU for the first time.

According to Andrey Bobylo, Director of the FEFU International Education Department, the online marketing in social networks and portals has become an effective tool to attract students, as well as 'direct admission' in China and the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). As part of a major campaign to promote the University, the FEFU staff and faculty participated in international education exhibitions, co-operated with international recruiting agencies in China, India, and Colombia.

The subject Olympiads, held together with the Federal Agency for CIS Affairs, Compatriots Living Abroad and International Humanitarian Cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo) in the CIS countries, helped significantly to raise the interest to the University. The following year, FEFU plans to bring international Olympiad movement to a new level and for the first time to organize intellectual contests for Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese students.

Starting from 2014 FEFU has been participating in the Russian Academic Excellence Project (5top100 Project). The key result of the National Project should be the appearance in Russia by 2020 of the modern leading universities with an effective management structure and international academic reputation, able to set trends in the global higher education development.
