FEFU improved its position in Global World Communicator Worldwide Professional University Rankings RankPro

Far Eastern Federal University has risen from 416th to 408th in the Global World Communicator Worldwide Professional University Rankings RankPro. The Top 500, compiled by the International Council of Scientists for 2015–2016, includes 20 higher education institutions from Russia, and FEFU takes the ninth position among them.

As the coordinator of the Global World Communicator program in Eastern Europe Jānis Balodis pointed out, the essential role in the improvement of the FEFU position was played by a good academic performance, the university takes the 310th place as per Academic Ranking now. It should be noted that along with Far Eastern Federal University the positive dynamics in the rankings has been demonstrated only by four universities of the country, viz. Tomsk Polytechnic University (146th place), Higher School of Economics (388), Voronezh State University (432) and Tver State University (497–498). Leadership among the Russian representatives in the rankings was retained by Lomonosov Moscow State University, which has dropped down from 37th to the 111th place. Harvard University, California Institute of Technology Caltech and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA), followed by Oxford and Cambridge Universities (UK), are on the first positions in RankPro.

According to the information service of the FEFU Vice President for Strategic Development, RankPro world rankings consider three main criteria. First, the academic possibilities of university are considered: the number of students and academic staff, education programs, research work and awards. The second criterion is the information availability on the university homepage, the third one is the positions of the university in the international and national rankings, and the results of the survey of the members of the International Council of Scientists from more than 40 countries.

Far Eastern Federal University has consistently improved its positions in the leading world rankings of higher education institutions. At the end of 2015 FEFU moved up from the 701+ band to the 651-700 band in the QS World University Rankings. The university is also ranked in the Top 100 Universities of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa of the QS University Rankings: BRICS and in the Top 100 QS University Rankings: Emerging Europe and Central Asia. FEFU has risen by 487 points in Webometrics Ranking where it takes the 3215th place now.

FEFU is participating in the 5top100 National Project, the key result of which should be the appearance in Russia by 2020 of the modern leading universities with an effective management structure and international academic reputation, able to set trends in the global higher education development.
