Participants in the BRICS Educational Internship Program at Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) plunged into the practical development of proposals and initiatives for the development of interaction in selected academic areas thanks to the “BRICS Dialogues” intensive. Delegations from five countries presented their initial proposals online in three lectures and three workshops. This work will continue until the second day of BRICS Dialogues, which will be held on June 26.

The lecture “BRICS Decade Anniversary: Key Achievements and Goals for the Future” was opened by Victoria Panova, FEFU Vice-President for International Relations, Scientific Supervisor of the Expert Council for the Preparation and Securing of the Presidency of the Russian Federation in BRICS grouping. Through a historical detour and analysis of the main characteristics of modern global governance, she revealed the basic values of BRICS and spoke about the main postulates of cooperation and formats of interstate interaction. 

“We highly appreciate the work of the first day of the intensive. Despite the remote format of the event, national delegations were able to reveal a number of ideas that have the potential for further implementation in BRICS. The educational program is included in the official calendar of events of the Expert Council for the preparation and maintenance of the Russian Federation presidency in BRICS. We have high hopes that young participants in the program will be able to work out a final document worthy of the attention of the heads of BRICS countries”, said Victoria Panova.

Leonid Grigoryev, Chief Advisor to the Head of Analytical Center for the Government of the Russian Federation, Member of the National Academic Council for BRICS Leonid Grigoryev, unveiled the concept of a pandemic from an economic point of view, and also raised the question of the importance of a full understanding of the “end of a pandemic” not so much in the medical as in socio-economic perspective. The speaker emphasized the close interaction of the BRICS member countries and outlined the sectors of the economy that will be most affected by the pandemic: the energy sector, tourism, and agriculture.

Participants discussed in detail the search for new areas of industry and trade in which countries can adopt each other's positive experiences to improve the quality of life. They discussed goods and technologies, the trade of which would serve to expand the movement of capital within the block. Each delegation noted the need to expand opportunities for youth to take internships in companies in BRICS countries and create joint educational programs on business administration. 

“The best part of the dialogue was a feeling of similarity and synergy between countries. It became clear that we all have similar problems and additional potential that can be used to find new solutions. One of the main conclusions that I made as a result of the workshop was that in countries with similar problems various measures can be used that were previously applied only at the national level”, said Daniel Lacerda Heringer (Brazil), student of the BRICS program.

Lilia Rizvanova , First Secretary of the Department for Russia's Participation in BRICS, Department of Foreign Policy Planning, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia spoke about one of the key tracks of the strategic cooperation of the BRICS member states - cultural and humanitarian exchanges. After the lectures, the participants were expected to have a lively discussion and work on the final document in the workshop mode, which was named after the Priorities of Russia’s Presidency in BRICS.

“I learned the point of view of delegates from BRICS countries on issues such as social and humanitarian cooperation, education. It is always nice to participate in a debate where people can share their opinions on a common topic. Listening to what others are saying, I learned that each person has his own view on a common problem. It also made me understand how to further strengthen the ties between the BRICS countries”, said Tushar Singh Manchanda (India), a BRICS student.

Far Eastern Federal University took the initiative to conduct an educational program for students of BRICS countries in connection with the Presidency of the Russian Federation in the international grouping in 2020. During the spring semester, 70 foreign students from Brazil, India, China, and the Republic of South Africa and 38 participants of the FEFU Academic Excellence and Honors Education program undergo training in the most relevant undergraduate and graduate areas for BRICS countries.
