Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) and Kanazawa University continue to develop scientific ties in the field of environmental protection. Universities have already held the second joint Russia-Japan online seminar Marine Ecology and Environmental Safety conducted in the English language. Master's students listened to and discussed the reports of scientists, outlined the topics for joint research. The event took place on the sidelines of the FarEastCon 2020 International Multidisciplinary Conference on Industrial Engineering and Modern Technologies.

The organizers of the seminar from the University of Kanazawa were the Institute of Nature and Environmental Technologies, as well as the FEFU Polytechnic Institute and the FEFU School of Natural Sciences with the support of the Center for International Promotion, Tourism and the Protocol of the Office of FEFU Vice-President for International Relations.

The reports of Japanese and Russian scientists dealt with the actual topic of marine ecology and touched upon the issues of environmental safety. The participants came to the conclusion that it is necessary to further develop this topic and that such events are useful for both parties to develop joint cooperation and improve the situation in terms of global ecology.

The first Environmental Protection and Resource Conservation seminar, organized under the auspices of the FEFU Polytechnic Institute, was held on July 29. Reports were presented by researchers of the Department of Natural and Technical Systems and Technospheric Safety of the University; directions for joint work with Japanese colleagues were outlined.

Since 2018, the FEFU Polytechnic Institute has been developing cooperation with Kanazawa University within the framework of the Japan-Russia exchange program in the field of fundamental research and advanced technologies. The program has been approved and funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology of the Government of Japan since 2017. In addition to FEFU, leading Russian universities and the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences are also the participants.

In addition, at the end of September, FEFU scientists presented their reports at the Russian-Japanese symposium Kick-off for an opening for Alumni Association & Japan-Russia Joint Symposium 2020: Inter-University Exchange Project. The event was joined by experts from the Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov, St. Petersburg State University, Kazan Federal University. On the sidelines of the symposium, a student seminar was held, where the Master’s Degree students of the FEFU presented the results of their developments.
