Acting President of Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) Alexey Koshel held meetings with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada Alison Mary LeClair and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Thailand Mr. Sasiwata Wongsinsawata on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) on September 4. The parties discussed the development of cooperation in research and development and in the field of academic and cultural exchanges.

There are still few examples of cooperation between FEFU and Canadian universities, but there are all the prerequisites for the active development of relations. Alison Mary LeClair expressed her intention to expand scientific and educational ties between the countries, highlighting the interest in Arctic research. Alexey Koshel stressed that FEFU has serious competencies in the field of ice research, and since 2015 has been conducting Ice Mechanics ice schools within the framework of the Arctic International Scientific and Educational Center.

The FEFU Acting President recalled that earlier students from Canada had already been trained at the Center for Russian Language and Culture and proposed to more actively use the university's opportunities for teaching Russian. Alexey Koshel also invited Canadian universities to join the APEC International Conference on Cooperation in Higher Education next year.

The Extraordinary Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Thailand thanked FEFU, especially the Oriental Institute, for teaching and promoting the Thai language and culture. The Kingdom of Thailand is interested in developing new areas of cooperation: joint training of specialists in the field of "Tourism", launching joint exchange programs, and internships. Sasiwata Wongsinsavata stressed that FEFU is a place where you can find the best tactics for the development of science and technology. Thailand is also interested in developing mutual relations with the technology parks of the two countries.

Alexey Koshel said that FEFU trained experts in Thai Studies from 1999 to 2014. And this year, the university again recruited a group of students to study the Thai language. As part of the 125-th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and the Kingdom of Thailand, Alexey Koshel proposed FEFU as a platform for cultural and educational events.

Far Eastern Federal University is actively working to strengthen international relations, strengthening its position as the flagship of Russian education in the APR. The international partner network of FEFU includes more than 300 educational institutions with which cooperation agreements are being implemented. Half of them are located in the Asia-Pacific region. FEFU has offices in Japan, the People's Republic of China, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, India, and a branch of our university in Japan on the island of Hokkaido has been operating for more than 20 years. FEFU is the only Russia’s university in the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU).
