Russky Technology Innovation Park was opened in Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) in cooperation with the Skolkovo Foundation in the framework of the 3rd Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) on September 6.

Start for a large-scale program to create the ecosystem of technology entrepreneurship on Russky Island was initiated by conclusion of the memorandum. The document was signed by Nikita Anisimov, the FEFU Interim President, and Viktor Vekselberg, the President of the Skolkovo Foundation. The ceremony was attended by Education Minister Olga Vasilyeva, who tried on virtual reality headset at the stand of the technopark and could move to Holland with its help.

As noted by Nikita Anisimov, Russky Technopark will become one of the centers around which a new science city on Russky Island will be formed.

"The technopark is one of the anchor projects for the development of an academic, university city on the island. Around such projects, the entire infrastructure is being formed for those young people who work in startups," said Nikita Anisimov. This is, first of all, the answer to the Russian president's instruction, which was sounded in the framework of the previous EEF on the creation of a conveyor of startups on Russky Island. And this conveyor is not just the production of some companies that will be located on the territory of the technopark. This is a very serious reformatting of the environment on the island, which will include the emergence of high-tech company offices."

Skolkovo President Viktor Vekselberg noted that Russky Technopark should become the bearer of the Foundation's ideas: Russky Technopark is, first of all, a set of services that will be provided to young entrepreneurs. They have many interesting ideas and proposals in their minds, but they need to be shaped, familiarized with the market, helped with organizational and legal issues, and registered with intellectual property rights. That's the range of services that will be provided in the technopark," Viktor Vekselberg explained. "Now there are 37 projects in it, but for them to appear we sent out proposals to more than 300 companies. This suggests that there is an initiative in the Far Eastern region, but it needs to be supported."

In her turn, the Minister of Education Olga Vasilyeva handed the permit for the first resident of Russky Technopark—Andrew Mishchenko, the founder of Rhonda Software—to relocate to it. The Minister also noted the uniqueness of the project, within the framework of which Russian students will have an opportunity to cooperate with residents of the technopark, realizing themselves and their talents.

At the booth of Russky Technopark, Olga Vasilieva tried on a virtual reality helmet presented by FEFU partners—the Cyber Russia Project—and with its help inspected a real wind power plant, which is situated in Holland. This year, FEFU and Cyber Russia launched a Master's Accelerator Program on augmented and virtual reality in six study areas at FEFU. Students will learn how to develop and implement promising types of software based on virtual and augmented reality technologies.

"By 2020, we plan to release more than 100 qualified and highly sought-after specialists in the IT market, as well as to receive expert tutors who can teach students and help them navigate in the IT field," explained Dmitry Zemtsov, the FEFU Vice President for Development.

The Russky Technopark project is aimed at forming an environment on the island for the development of high-tech industries to ensure the leadership of the Russian Federation in the perspective markets of the Asia-Pacific region (APR). Technopark will work with technological projects at all stages, which are ready to develop in the markets of the Far East and to advance to the Asian countries in the future.

Having concluded the memorandum, FEFU and Skolkovo agreed to render consulting, legal and organizational support to technology entrepreneurs of the Far East, launch accelerator programs, hold joint events for the development of technology entrepreneurship, as well as launch tenders to attract investment in projects.

The most successful Russian startups have already started concentrating on Russky Island and became the first residents of the technopark. Together with Rhonda Software, the founders of such domestic startups as Kvazar, ROBOT, AGAR-DV, and Marineo received the new status.

The key areas of work of the technopark meet the global challenges of mankind. These are the problems of food security of the APR countries, the pollution of the oceans, the reduction of biodiversity, the preservation of public health, the creation of modern robotic systems, cybersecurity, the development of space and air space, and others.

The idea of creating a technopark fits into the Concept for Russky Island Development, approved by the Government of the Russian Federation. At the first stage, the ecosystem of technology entrepreneurship will be formed in FEFU, then it will be extended to the territory of the island. The launch on the site of the university will help create a special research and educational environment that provides comprehensive support to the emerging and attracted technology projects, their rapid promotion and verification in the market.
