Far Eastern Federal University climbed by 983 points in the international Webometrics Ranking of World Universities as of the first half of 2016, thus becoming one of the leaders in the growth dynamics among the participants of the 5top100 National Project. Experts of the authoritative world ranking analyzed the websites of about 25,000 universities and ranked them in the global Internet space.

Far Eastern Federal University has significantly improved its positions in the Webometrics Russian ranking list, among BRICS countries, and Central and Eastern Europe universities. Now FEFU takes 2232nd place in the Webometrics overall ranking.

According to the Office of the FEFU Vice President for Strategic Development, the promotion of Far Eastern Federal University in the Webometrics ranking has been significantly impacted by the developing content of the University's website, including a broader representation of the major sections in English. As a result of the website development, FEFU positions were improved in such ranking indicators as Presence and Openness, its Visibility in the global network has increased.

The Far Eastern Federal University website promotion in the international ranking systems is provided by the Image Policy Department. The implemented package of development activities, including those related to the launch of the upgraded website in 2015 and its subsequent development, maintain a sustained momentum in the Webometrics Ranking. As per the results of 2015 the University had demonstrated the high rates of growth (+487 points), but the latest result became even more impressive (+983 points).

Webometrics Ranking of World Universities is published twice a year and ranks about 25,000 universities worldwide. Ranking methodology is based on four indicators of different weights: Popularity is the number of all inlinks from external resources; Presence is the number of Web pages as indexed by Google; Excellence is the citation of scientific papers based on analytical data by SCImago research group, and Openness or Transparency is the indicator that uses information from the profiles of universities in Google Scholar Citations.

The leaders among Russian universities in the latest Webometrics Ranking are Lomonosov Moscow State University (186th place) and Saint Petersburg State University (557th place). The Higher School of Economics demonstrated the best performance (711th place) among the universities participating to 5top100 Project.
