Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) ensures the proper gender balance in the implementation of the STEM approach (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). A report on this at the international online seminar was presented by Elizaveta Zhdanova Head of FEFU Office of Analytical Support for International Relations.

Representatives of APEC economies shared the best practices for attracting women to STEM at the workshop "Cross-Border Human Capacity Building for Glocalized Scientific Literacy-Phase 2. STEM + Education for School Girls, Women, and Teacher Professional Development" and statistics on gender representation, as well as presented government steps to achieve gender balance in the context of digital transformation.

“The Far Eastern Federal University is a worthy example of popularizing STEM in Russia. All projects aimed at promoting science and technology - Pacific Design Schools, NTI Olympiads, NAUKA 0+ Festival, and others - are open to both boys and girls. The ongoing initiatives show that gender stereotypes do not play a role in the choice of a profession and the development of professional competencies. The APEC International Conference on Cooperation in Higher Education, held annually at FEFU, also pays attention to representativeness. Women leaders of the academic community of APEC economies, including at the ministerial level, speak at the venues of the event”, noted Elizaveta Zhdanova.

Gender equality is one of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals for the period up to 2030, as well as an important component of the National Action Strategy for Women for 2017-2022, in the implementation of which Far Eastern Federal University actively participates and promotes in large-scale national and international events.
