On December 19, an international scientific conference was held, organized by the Ho Chi Minh Institute of St. Petersburg State University, which was completely online, which allowed many experts and scientists from Russia, Vietnam, Indonesia, and other countries to take part in real-time and present only their reports, but also take advantage of the opportunity for an active and fruitful discussion.

Welcoming the conference, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Konstantin Vnukov stressed the important role of the Vietnamese Communist Party in the development of the country and the achievement of economic growth. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to the Russian Federation Ngo Duc Manh, addressing the participants, emphasized the special importance of the XIII Congress of the Communist Party in the political life of the republic.

The participants discussed the peculiarities of the regional and foreign policy of Vietnam, summed up the political, economic, and social development of Vietnam, considered a possible strategy for the key vectors of Vietnam's development, presented in the documents of the XIII Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

"Vietnam has achieved great success in the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic and this has caused a great response in the world, which even got its name - the" Vietnamese phenomenon. "In 2020, Vietnam chairs the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) regular offline diplomacy into online format. All important events and summits were organized, during which they effectively carried out a comprehensive assessment of the institutional arrangements within the organization, as well as reviewed documents related to the ASEAN community projects. The most important aspect advanced by Vietnam is the development of collective efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and the creation of joint teams related to public health emergencies",  said Evgeny Vlasov, FEFU Deputy Vice-President for International Relations. In addition, Professor of the Department of Pacific Asia Alexander Sokolovsky delivered a report “Changing Vietnamese writing as a reflection of the change of eras in Vietnam”, raising the problem of the need to reform modern Vietnamese writing in the light of the upcoming decisions of the XIII Congress.

Training of certified specialists in the field of Vietnamese studies has been conducted at FEFU since 1987. A logical step in deepening educational interaction between our countries was the opening in 2018 of the FEFU Representative Office in Hanoi on the basis of the Vietnam National University.
