The General Meeting of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) will be held at Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) from 9 to 13 October. Preparation for the large-scale event was discussed at the working meeting by the FEFU Interim President Nikita Anisimov, Deputy Head of the Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology (Rosstandart) Boris Potemkin and IEC General Meetings Coordinator Sophie Chardon (France).

IEC is a non-governmental organization that develops international standards for all electrical, electronic and related technologies. As noted by Nikita Anisimov, holding the General Meeting is an opportunity for the country to demonstrate its attention to high technologies and advanced trends. Russia will host the forum for the first time in 40 years, the previous meeting took place in Moscow in 1977.

“This event is on a scale commensurate with the Eastern Economic Forum. About 2,000 participants from around the world will be working on the FEFU campus for two weeks. The university should hold this most important event for our country at the highest level,” said Nikita Anisimov.

The General Meeting is the highest governing body of the International Electrotechnical Commission and is held annually. All governing, advisory, and technical bodies of the IEC organize meetings in its margins. In total, 174 technical bodies operate within the commission, which cover different areas of electronics and electrical engineering in all branches of industry. The last meetings took place in Geneva (Switzerland) and Frankfurt am Main (Germany).

Far Eastern Federal University today is the center of Russia's integration into the Asia-Pacific region and the main congress and exhibition venue in the Russian Far East. In 2016, the FEFU campus hosted more than 230 conferences, forums, symposiums, and meetings, attended by more than 50,000 people.
