Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) will start to train Bachelors on the new Education 2.0 model from 2016-2017 academic year. The unique to the national education project incorporates best international practices and standardizes the training system with the experience of the world's leading universities. FEFU, the first in Russia, makes this important step to improve its international competitiveness.

"All Schools of Far Eastern Federal University, participating in the Education 2.0 Project, are ready for work in a new format," said Andrey Shushin, the Vice President for Academic Affairs. "All the necessary work to run the project has been carried out, the appropriate regulatory framework for the training of Bachelors on new standards has been approved, advisors and faculty have undergone training."

Project members will be freshmen admitted to FEFU on undergraduate programs in 2016. They will start study with the Core Education common learning module, which aims to form generic competencies, widely sought after both internationally and on the Russian labor market.

The Young Student Course consists of 12 required subjects: English, Mathematics; Economic and Legal Thinking; Philosophy; Logic; AsPac Region: Politics, Economics, and Culture; Fundamentals of Project Activities; Modern Information Technologies; Rhetoric and Academic Writing; History; Physical Education, and Safety. Starting from the first semester onwards vocational subjects, necessary to the development of young professionals, are also included in the curriculum.

Having successfully mastered the Core Education, a student will continue training for the chosen area of study within Major and Minor educational modules. A Major is a professional specialization in the main area of expertise and a Minor is an additional qualification that a student can develop starting from the third year of study, by taking interesting for her/him courses at no extra charge (in other Schools of the University as well).

"The knowledge gained in the Core Education program, will always be in demand. In addition to the basics of humanitarian and technical disciplines, among them are such competencies as to think critically and analytically, to speak and write competently in Russian and English. The introduction of the main (Major) and additional (Minor) specialization is an opportunity for the student to choose what s/he needs. For example, not just Economics, but the Construction Economics. This dual specialization system will seriously increase the chances for future graduates in the labor market," said Elena Gafforova, the Director of the School of Economics and Management.

The unification of education following the world best educational practices will also allow to study separate courses in face-to-face and distance modes of study at the FEFU partner universities with the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU). An important feature of the new educational model is the advanced training in a foreign language on the first and second years of study with the compulsory passing of the internationally accepted Cambridge English exam. At the same time all programs will also be focused on studying Asia-Pacific region, for each graduate to be familiar with the specifics of the region which s/he will work in.

The Education 2.0 Project was developed in the framework of the FEFU Competitiveness Enhancement Program under the 5top100 Project and has been approved at the meeting of the Council on Competitiveness Enhancement of Leading Russian Universities within the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation and by the FEFU Academic Council.

Far Eastern Federal University is a participant in the national program for enhancing the international competitiveness of the country's leading universities, the key result of which should be the appearance in Russia by 2020 of the modern leading universities with an effective management structure and international academic reputation, able to set trends in the global higher education development.
