New sustainable forms of cooperation, which will increase the intensity and quality of the exchange of scientific and educational experience between the countries, were discussed by the participants of the meeting of the international working group of the BRICS countries. The organizer of the meeting “Human Development after the COVID-19 Pandemic. The Role of Education and Science” was presented by Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU). The rectors and vice-rectors of leading universities in Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa joined the discussion.

The round table consisted of two sessions: "Science and Education after the Pandemic: Strategic Aspect" and "Digital World: Successful Practices". The participants paid attention to important trends in education and science, new distance and network educational formats, deepening ties between education and the scientific and technological community, as well as the next steps in the field of educational and scientific cooperation between the BRICS countries. University representatives also took part in the discussion about the future of offline learning and its possible modifications.

“During the global crisis, it became necessary to fully concentrate and mobilize all forces at various levels of society. Science and education were among the first to face major challenges, including digitalization, the rapid development of e-learning and online platforms for everyday tasks. Far Eastern Federal University attaches paramount importance to maintaining cooperation in the field of education and science. I am convinced that this round table will make a significant contribution not only to the exchange of scientific and educational experience but will also create friendly ties between its participants”, said Nikita Anisimov, FEFU President.

FEFU President also emphasized that a collective response to the mutual challenge of time after the pandemic requires a transition to the next stage of digital development, new views on the future of technology, science, and education, as well as modern approaches to intensifying economic growth.

The participants of the meeting joined in the discussion and development of a package of civil recommendations that will be included in the final report of the BRICS Civil Forum in the following areas:

• Education and Science;

• Economic Development in the Era of Digitalization;

• Information Strategies and Society;

• International Cultural Exchanges.

The meeting of the working group was held within the framework of the Civil Forum, which was established in 2015 at the initiative of the Russian side and was supported by other participants. The Civil Forum is a traditional discussion platform for public organizations of the BRICS countries. FEFU Vice-President Victoria Panova is a co-chair of the BRICS Civil Forum and the Scientific supervisor of the BRICS Russia Organizing Committee Expert Council coordinating the Russian Federation's Presidency in BRICS.

Far Eastern Federal University actively participated in events under the Presidency of the Russian Federation in an international association and conducted the BRICS Educational Internship Program for 70 students from Brazil, India, China and South Africa, as well as 38 Russian participants from FEFU. During the spring semester, all of them completed online training in the most relevant Bachelor's and Master's programs for the BRICS countries.
