Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) has developed a plan for the transition to e-learning, which will protect students and employees from the risks of the spread of coronavirus infection and at the same time maintain the quality of education. FEFU will continue to conduct classes according to the approved schedule, but without the need for the presence of students and professors in university classrooms. Lecture and seminar classes will be held in webinar format through the university electronic system, students can connect through personal electronic devices from home or dormitories.

“E-learning is a familiar format for FEFU: since 2018, all the academic curriculums include online courses of leading Russian universities as well as online courses developed by FEFU professors. In total, about 13,000 university students learn electronic courses annually. And, of course, our students have remote access to an academic library, subscriptions to abstract and full-text scientific databases, methodological materials, webinar and lecture notes through an LMS system”, said Nikita Anisimov, FEFU President.

Far Eastern Federal University is the only Russian university that is part of the Association of Leading Universities of the Asia-Pacific Region, therefore, when developing a plan to counteract the spread of coronavirus, the experience of the largest educational centers in Asia was taken into account, in particular, the model and practical recommendations of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

The meeting of FEFU Academic Council will be held on March 17, 2020, it will consider the transition to a new educational model. Also at the meeting at 9:00 (Moscow time), the leading Russian virologist, Mikhail Shchelkanov, Head of the Scientific Laboratory of Microorganisms Ecology of Eastern Federal University, will give a lecture on the coronavirus COVID-19, which will be broadcasted online.

Far Eastern Federal University controls the non-proliferation of coronavirus infection on the territory of the FEFU campus. Students and university employees arriving to the Russian Federation from other countries with high epidemiological risks are obliged to undergo a medical examination within 14 days from the day of arrival. Starting March 18, 2020, FEFU employees will also partially be transferred to a remote work format.
