Sep 6, 2025 - FEFU News

Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) and the Indonesian National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) signed a memorandum of understanding at the Eastern Economic Forum. The parties agreed to establish an FEFU representative office in Indonesia, which will coordinate work on the development of academic mobility and educational projects.

The new FEFU representative office will be located in Jakarta at the headquarters of BRIN, the main government institution responsible for the development of research, development and innovation in Indonesia. The parties will soon begin working out the precise details of its establishment and operation in the near future.

"The FEFU representative office in Jakarta is our new foothold in the dynamically developing and promising market of Southeast Asia, which will serve as a platform for deep integration into the educational space of ASEAN countries. In the near future, the representative office will soon begin an active search for potential partners among leading Indonesian universities that are ready to launch joint educational programmes. This work will serve as the basis for a new ambitious project of FEFU – the Russian-Asian Faculty, which is intended to become Russia's first platform that brings together joint educational programmes with universities in China, India, Vietnam, Indonesia and other Asia-Pacific countries under one roof," said Boris Korobets, FEFU President.

On the basis of the representative office, experts from the Scientific and Educational Centre of the FEFU Institute of Asian Studies, together with BRIN specialists, will also begin work on coordinating the research interests of the two countries, focusing on Indonesia's technological priorities.

"Cooperation with FEFU and the establishment of the representative office aling with BRIN's key objectives of developing international educational ties and deepening knowledge about Indonesia's global partners. Studying Russia, its culture, politics and economy, as well as the dynamics of relations with our region, is of great importance. We are confident that combining the potential of BRIN and a leading Russian university in the Far East will open up new prospects for both countries and make a significant contribution to strengthening mutual understanding between our peoples," said Trina Fizzanti, Head of the Education Research Centre at Indonesia’s National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN).

It should be noted that Far Eastern Federal University is actively engaged in international relations, strengthening its position as the flagship of Russian education in the Asia-Pacific region. The FEFU's international partnership network includes more than 200 universities, over 160 of which are located in Asia. The key tool for FEFU's international activities is its network of representative offices in Asia-Pacific countries. The university has already opened four overseas offices in Hanoi (Vietnam), Beijing (China), Tokyo (Japan) and New Delhi (India). FEFU also has a branch in Japan and 15 Russian Language and Culture Centres in China.
