News in Press-centre

Jan 23, 2019 - FEFU News

The International Winter School opened at Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) on January 21. High school students from Harbin, China, listen to lectures, meet students, learn about interesting youth projects that are implemented at FEFU. The school is conducted with the assistance of the Longmei Education Corporation in China.

The school will last only a week, every day is literally arranged by the hour: classes with professors, meetings with students, master classes in Russian folklore, excursions. One of the visiting points was the FEFU Project Activity Center, a place where each student, regardless of his specialty, can try himself in technological creativity. Here they study programming, bioengineering, develop electronic devices and create automatic space systems.

“Our students are now constructing a small spacecraft, a microsatellite, which is planned to be launched into space on a rocket as an accompanying payload,” said Stanislav Karpenko, Director of the FEFU Project Activity Center. “If you want to work in the space industry, you should start with such projects.”

“China is one of our main partners, so it’s not surprising that, thanks to the development of economic and social-humanitarian ties, young people’s interest in studying in Russia has also increased significantly. The trend is relevant for both countries, - said FEFU Deputy Vice-President for International Relations Evgeny Vlasov. - There are long-standing friendly relations between Vladivostok and Harbin. Schoolchildren from this city often become participants of educational programs and projects implemented at FEFU, in order to subsequently return here as students.”

In the 2018-2019 academic year, more than 3,500 foreign students from 74 countries study at Far Eastern Federal University. More than 60% of them are citizens of the countries of the Asia-Pacific region, where the university is an outpost of Russian education and science. Every year, the Far Eastern Federal University hosts several international winter and summer schools aimed at introducing young people from different countries to Russia.

China is the main FEFU partner in international education. The university develops cooperation with 50 state and private educational institutions, scientific institutes, government organizations and foundations of the country. Research and exchange programs are being successfully implemented, joint conferences and summer schools are being held.
