Oct 31, 2017 - FEFU News

The Cybersecurity Research and Education Center of Kaspersky Lab was opened at Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) on October 24. The Center will create a favorable academic environment for students to develop competences in cybersecurity and for training of personnel for the high-tech industry.

“Any modern Russian university should focus on the digital economy to be understood both as the state program and the future we are approaching,” said Dmitry Zemtsov, the FEFU Vice President for Development. “The digital economy is a data economy, and it should be protected. Information security issues permeate all products that have a digital component. Whatever we do—an unmanned vehicle, an LMS system, and customer services—all of this can be attacked, which is why cybersecurity is so relevant today.”

Dmitry Zemtsov stressed that the university seeks to develop competences in digital economy and relies on interaction with leading companies. The Research and Education Center will provide FEFU students with access to the best competencies in cybersecurity and will allow them to participate in the projects and developments of Kaspersky Lab while studying.

“FEFU is a landmark university in engineering education, and it is very important for us to participate in the training of specialists there,” said Dmitry Postelnik, the Head of Educational Programs at Kaspersky Lab. “The center is not only a library or classroom for classes. This is the place where the academic process, research activity, and project work will be brought together. First of all, this is the point of attraction of experts of different levels who are interested in the sphere of cybersecurity. I am confident that our joint work will be successful.”

Dmitry Postelnik noted that the recently opened office of Kaspersky Lab in Vladivostok would also become an employer for the FEFU graduates, and local and invited experts will regularly hold master classes for students. The company and the university plan to open a joint master's program in cybersecurity in the future.
