The Master’s Program in development of small satellites is to be open in 2019 at the School of Data Economy of Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU). Students will begin to work on research projects and applied tasks as part of creating a real device, ready to be launched to space.

“We are launching an English-language program on space Small satellite development for private space from the new academic year,” said Ilya Mirin, Director of the FEFU School of Data Economy. - Private companies participate in its development, including our long-time partner Sputnix, a satellite platform manufacturer based in Moscow and a resident of the Skolkovo Innovation Center. Private business has a very high interest in space in general, over the past four years it has grown many times and this growth continues.”

The program provides budgetary and contractual bases of study. Both Russian and foreign students are invited to enroll.

“The demand for such programs abroad is very large, so the question is not even about how to attract foreign students, but, rather, how to work with this market correctly. You need an audience with a certain level of basic knowledge, a particular psycho-emotional attitude. Young people who aspire to megacities do not go to the island. But those who are ready to sit in laboratories, work a lot and solve the global tasks that the country faces are traveling. A man must live his own business, burning ideas. We are waiting for such students”, said the Director of the FEFU School of Data Economy.

The duration of training in the new Master’s Program will be two years. During this time, students will learn all the technologies necessary for the development and creation of satellites, will receive specialized skills and learn the equipment to work with together in production.

“The participants will have to work on the satellite software, its device, chassis, payload in order to create a product ready for market entry,” emphasized Ilya Mirin.
