More than 100 scientists and practitioners in the field of teaching foreign languages were united by an online forum at Far Eastern Federal University. Participants developed their professional competencies in the face of modern challenges of e-learning. Lectures and workshops were delivered by experts from Australia, Estonia and leading Russia’s universities. The forum was joined by higher education institutions teachers of English, French, German, Latin and Spanish.

According to the Academic Department of English Language of Institute of Oriental Studies — School of Regional and International Studies (IOS–SRIS) of FEFU, which was the organizer of the event, in addition to scientific reports in Russian and English, participants presented video recordings of fragments of foreign language classes containing effective pedagogical responses. The teachers discussed the problem of choosing textbooks, the use of creative tasks during classes, the issues of teaching foreign languages online using MS Teams platform, online whiteboard, technologies for e-learning and electronic educational environment.

Based on the reports results, a collection of articles will be published and issued in the Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI). The organizers noted that during the forum, participants received advanced training in the field of “Modern methods of teaching foreign languages in institutes of higher education“, which significantly increased the usefulness of the event.

Experienced teachers appreciated the participation of many young professionals in the forum. For them, the event became a platform for professional development, exchange of opinions and experience, and it gave them a fresh look at the ways of presented problems solution. The forum also opened up further prospects and opportunities for cooperation.
