     Vice-President of the International Chess Federation (FIDE), World Championship Contender Nigel Short met with students of Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU). The meeting was organized as part of the Match for the Title of World Chess Champion, which started at FEFU on January 16.

     The British grandmaster told the story of his life. Nigel Short shared the main secrets of chess victories, which are impossible without persistent work on oneself and maximum efforts to achieve the goal. Nigels’s father became his first chess instructor and instilled a love for this sport.

     “In addition to perseverance, inner desire and interest are very important. It is the first step to further professional growth. This applies not only to chess”, Nigel Short emphasized.

     After the speech of the grandmaster, students asked their questions. The guys were interested in how chess players can maintain their mental and physical form. Nigel Short also shared his opinion on the outcome of the match between Chinese woman Ju Wenjun and title challenger Alexandra Goryachkina.

     Nigel Short at the age of 12 became the youngest participant in the British Chess Championship and defeated the country's champion Jonathan Penrose. But he gained great fame after challenging Garry Kasparov and defeating former world champion Anatoly Karpov.
