The President of Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) Nikita Anisimov met Nobel laureate in Medicine and Physiology Sir Richard Timothy Hunt and a member of the Royal Society of London, Professor of the School of Biological Sciences of the University of Edinburgh (Scotland) Bill Earnshaw. Scientists arrived at FEFU to participate in the international scientific conference " Future of Biomedicine 2019" (FOB 2019), which is conducted from September 18 to 22.

“The international events held at FEFU with the participation of world-class researchers open up new opportunities for students of our university. The format of live communication and personal presentation of achievements gives young scientists the confidence that outstanding results can be achieved in science”, said Nikita Anisimov.

During the conversation, scientists asked Dr. Anisimov questions about cooperation with world universities, the development of a biomedical direction at FEFU, and research in other scientific fields.

Nikita Anisimov told about a joint project with the University of Edinburgh, which allowed young FEFU researchers to work under the supervision of world-class scientists. In 2016, five students from the School of Biomedicine and the School of Natural Sciences went to Edinburgh for two months, joining the international groups of the Institute of Genomic and Molecular Medicine, the Center for Cell Biology and the Medical Center of the University of Scotland. Their research projects were related to the study of the structure of various proteins, the nuclear membrane, molecular mechanisms and epigenetics of cancer.

Sir Richard Timothy Hunt is an English biochemist, winner of the 2001 Nobel Prize in Medicine and Physiology, awarded for research, which resulted in the discovery of molecules and genes that regulate the development and division of cells of living organisms. Member of the Royal Society. In 2016, he signed a letter calling on Greenpeace, the United Nations, and governments around the world to stop fighting genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

Bill Earnshaw is a cell biologist, professor at the University of Edinburgh (Great Britain), a member of the Royal Society of London.

At the conference scientists from Russia and foreign countries discuss the latest achievements of modern molecular medicine, research in the field of genetics and epigenetics, structure and functions of chromosomes, biologically active compounds, metabolites, and biopolymers.
