The work of the National Technological Initiative (NTI) project team was recognized as the “Breakthrough of 2018” at the “NTI Ecosystem: Strategy for the Future” forum. Projects with the participation of talented schoolchildren of Russia were named the most significant for the development of the NTI community. The award was given to the working group leader Dmitry Zemtsov, Vice-President for Development of Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU).

The prize was awarded to such projects as NTI Competition, “Island 10-21” Intensive Course and the NTI University 20.35. FEFU took part in the organization of these events. The NTI Competition is a team competition aimed at finding and developing talent. In 2018, the competition gathered more than 38,000 schoolchildren from all over the country, and the finalists solved real engineering problems from technology companies. In the 2018-2019 academic year, FEFU, together with its partners, organizes three Competition profiles: “Virtual reality”, “Neurotechnology” and “Water Robotic Systems”.

The task is to reveal the talent of technological creativity in schoolchildren and raise a new generation of future engineers, entrepreneurs, scientists, and technological leaders involved in the NTI. Today the network covers all federal districts of Russia and tens of thousands of children. Several large-scale projects have been launched: the NTI Competition, Design schools, and festivals.

The NTI is focused on the development of such promising market directions as unmanned vehicles, neurotechnologies, personalized medicine, intellectual energy, advanced production technologies, etc.
