Scientists of Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) received funding from the Russian Foundation for Basic Research for 2019-2021. The winners of the fundamental research contest included eight projects in the field of socio-economic development of the Far East, psychology, pedagogy, and natural sciences. FEFU applications are supported by three-year grants with funding of 1 million rubles a year.

The Russian Foundation for Basic Research has paid special attention to humanitarian studies of the university. Under the guidance of Elena Oleinik, Professor at the School of Economics and Management, scientists will conduct a comprehensive assessment of the Far East economic system development. Migration policy and mobility of the population in the region will be studied by Professor Yuri Schmidt (School of Economics and Management), Associate Professors Anna Vinokurova and Natalia Tkacheva (School of Arts and Humanities).

Two projects-winners of the contest are associated with the protection of children. Associate Professor at the Tatiana Gavrilova (School of Pedagogy) examines the psychological characteristics of adolescents who are interested in pro-suicidal social media content. Professor Alexander Filipova (School of Arts and Humanities) will study the development of the urban environment for children.

Also, the support of the Russian Foundation for Basic Research received the FEFU natural sciences, which have already shown good results. Under the leadership of Professor Ivan Tananaev (School of Natural Sciences), scientists are exploring approaches to the processing of liquid radioactive waste containing petroleum products. Researchers at the laboratory of film technology, headed by Alexey Ognev, will study antiferromagnetic, new materials to create promising information processing systems.

Scientists of Far Eastern Federal University annually receive grants from the Russian Foundation for Basic Research to conduct scientific research in priority areas determined by the Strategy of Russia's scientific and technological development. In 2018, the foundation supported eight FEFU projects following a fundamental research competition. Also last year, the Russian Foundation for Basic Research approved a record number of 13 applications from young university scientists.
