Representatives of QS Quacquarelli Symonds Ltd, the compilers of one of the most reputable international education QS World University Rankings, noted the great progress of a number of leading Russian universities and presented the certificates of new positions achievement in the world rankings. Having moved up more than 100 points over the year, FEFU received an honorary certificate for joining the top 600 (551-600 band).
The awards ceremony was held in Rossiya Segodnya Multimedia Press Center, Moscow, on September 13th. As pointed out by Zoya Zaitseva, QS Regional Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, for the first time QS decided to arrange "the individual awarding to a single country." She also noted that almost all Russian universities have demonstrated the progress.
According to the QS expert, the Russian universities are not left to their own devices anymore; they have been heard on the international scene. "The substantial part in Russian universities has always been there, but universities simply did not tell about themselves to the world," said Zoya Zaitseva. According to her, "now they have different incentives to improve their competitiveness, in particular the 5top100 Project, and this results in that Russian universities learn to praise themselves."
In addition to participating in the awards ceremony, the representatives of the universities also told about their development programs. The FEFU Vice President for Federal Government Relations Natalya Malanicheva said that a powerful incentive for a change in FEFU was the International Competitiveness Enhancement Program (5top100 Project) and, of course, the implementation of the program naturally had an impact on the rankings eventually.
