The experience of the Novosibirsk Akademgorodok (known as “Siberian Silicon Valley”) is planned to be used when creating a large scientific and technological center on Russky Island. Prospects for cooperation were discussed during a working visit of the Minister for the Development of the Russian Far East, Alexander Kozlov, to Novosibirsk Region on January 10. The delegation included Dmitry Zemtsov, Vice-President for Development of Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU), and Dmitry Borovikov, Director of the Russky Technopark.

The participants got acquainted with the scientists of The Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the construction project of the Siberian ring photon source, the Novosibirsk Technopark, including its infrastructure, technology support center, business incubator and residents.

“Following the Eastern Economic Forum, Vladimir Putin gave a number of instructions related to the development of Far Eastern Federal University and Russky Island in general within the framework of the formation of a large scientific and technological center. The island will receive special status, it is planned to build a technopark and “megascience” installations, to create a center for “Digital Development” and R&D units of state-owned corporations. The Novosibirsk colleagues have experience in creating efficient technology parks, one of the best in the country, so we are interested in working closely together to successfully fulfill the instructions of the President”, said Dmitry Zemtsov, FEFU Vice-President for Development.

Within the framework of the Eastern Economic Forum 2018, Vladimir Putin said that it was necessary “to create for the Far East a kind of future space, a space of dreams and creativity.” The head of state instructed the government to work out the issue of giving Russky Island a special legal status in order to create a comfortable environment for the implementation of innovative projects. The issue of creating a technopark, a center for “Digital Development” in the field of “big” data and information security, launching an installation of the megascience class to solve new scientific problems, opening engineering centers of the largest companies operating in the Far East is also being worked out.
