Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) doubled the number of applicants from Vietnam who entered the main educational programs of higher education and the Preparatory Department of the Center for Russian Language and Culture. In 2019, the total number of students at FEFU from Vietnam reached 84 people.

According to the FEFU Department of Development of International Cooperation, the number of Vietnamese citizens who have enrolled in Master's programs in the areas of training has also increased: Biology, Chemistry, Economics, Land Management, and Cadastres, Ecology and Nature Management, Tourism and Biotechnology.

The increase in the number of Vietnamese students is due to the active work of the FEFU Representative Office in Hanoi (Socialist Republic of Vietnam), opened a year ago. On its basis, the university regularly holds events aimed at increasing the interest of studying in Russia, supporting the prestige of Russian higher education and disseminating the culture and learning of the Russian Language among Vietnamese youth.

In February 2019, a meeting was held at FEFU with Vietnamese first and second year students of the faculty of the Russian Language and Russian Culture, where they were told about promising opportunities for admission to the Master's program of the university, about life in the city of Vladivostok and about the culture of Russia as a whole.

In March, the FEFU Representative Office in Vietnam together with the Russky Mir Foundation and with the participation of students of Vietnam National University studying Russian, organized the festival named “Russian Melodies in the Heart of Hanoi” in the central square of Hanoi. The event was aimed at getting acquainted with Russian culture and traditions.

Potential FEFU applicants from Vietnam were told about FEFU educational programs, advantages, requirements and rules of admission. The event was timed to the festival of Russian culture "From Hanoi to Moscow."

FEFU also organized a Mathematics Competition for school children in Vietnam, which was attended by more than 50 people from several schools in Hanoi and three remote provinces. The best participants received invitation certificates for training in educational programs at FEFU.

Far Eastern Federal University is the only university in the Far East and Siberia where Vietnamese is widely represented, and the leader in Russia in the number of students studying the Vietnamese language. The training of graduates in Vietnam has been carried out since 1987 (at that time - Far Eastern State University). Also in 2018 in Vietnam, on the basis of Vietnam National University, the Representative Office of FEFU was opened. Its main tasks are assistance in the training of specialists in the Russian language, the development of joint teaching aids and scientific articles on the methodology of teaching Russian as a foreign language.
