President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin named Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) one of the most advanced education centers in Russia. The head of the state designated the key role of the university in the development of the Far East during the speech at the plenary session of the 3rd Eastern Economic Forum on September 7.

"It is important to fully use the existing educational potential of the region. Already today, Far Eastern Federal University is becoming one of the most advanced modern educational institutions in Russia, one of the centers for the development of digital technologies," Vladimir Putin said.

To build an effective youth policy that takes into account the current and future tasks of the Far East, the president instructed the Government of Russia, in conjunction with the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry for the Development of the Far East and the Agency for Human Capital Development in the Far East to develop a special program. The head of state stressed that it is necessary in it to focus on education, vocational guidance, and youth support in the labor market.

Within the framework of the program, Vladimir Putin proposed to open branch campuses and relevant departments of leading Russian universities in the Far East. The president paid special attention to the development of secondary vocational education and noted that the region's demand for qualified workforce will only grow in the coming years.

"It is important that the personnel base for future production be formed here, on the territory of the Far East. In the next three years, it is necessary to carry out a comprehensive modernization of the system of secondary vocational education, to update the production base of colleges and schools, focusing on the best standards of the World Skills," Vladimir Putin stressed.

The Eastern Economic Forum is being held at Far Eastern Federal University on September 6-7. More than 5,000 people—representatives of official, business, scientific and expert circles from 61 countries gathered in Vladivostok to discuss the development of the Far East and international cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region. Among the guests of honor are the leaders of the three Asian states: Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe, President of the Republic of Korea Mun Zhe Ying, and President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga.
