Universities of the Asia-Pacific region (APR) unite with the governments of countries, business and industry, responding to the challenges of the fourth industrial revolution. Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU), as the only representative of the country in the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU), will make the Russian contribution to the development of the economy of the future. Presidents Meeting of the Association of Pacific Rim Universities with the participation of the FEFU President Nikita Anisimov took place in Vietnam on the eve of the APEC summit on November 8.

At the meeting, APRU announced their decision to join the APEC DARE—Data Science and Analytics Raising Employment—project to overcome the impending digital divide in the APR. Nikita Anisimov presented the FEFU strategy in the development of the digital economy, focusing on technology entrepreneurship in the field of neurotechnologies, and invited leading Asian universities to join these projects.

“The development of Data Science today is a priority in the Asia-Pacific region, as it plays a key role in the management of artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), cyberphysical systems that are at the center of the fourth industrial revolution and the future of global prosperity,” said Clay Stobaugh, the DARE Project Co-Chairman, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer at John Wiley & Sons, Inc. It is remarkable that the major event—the launch of the 20.35 University of the National Technology Initiative (NTI University), which will prepare the best personnel for the digital economy—has taken place at the same time in Russia. FEFU and other leading universities of the country will participate in the activities of the network university of the new format of learning.

Also, as part of his visit to Vietnam, Nikita Anisimov met with Dr. Nguyen Kim Son, the President of Vietnam National University, Hanoi. The parties discussed prospects for cooperation and expansion of exchanges. The day before, talks were held with Konstantin Vnukov, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Vietnam. During his Asian trip, Nikita Anisimova will also visit Seoul, where he is going to participate in the 5th forum of the presidents of leading universities of Russia and the Republic of Korea.

The Association of Pacific Rim Universities was founded in 1997 and Far Eastern State University (now FEFU) became one of its founders. Today, APRU brings together 45 leading science-based universities from Australia, Indonesia, Canada, China, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, Russia, Singapore, USA, Thailand, Taiwan, the Philippines, Chile, and Japan. For 20 years FEFU has remained the only representative of the Russian Federation in this prestigious association.
