Far East Federal University (FEFU) and Tokai University (Japan) have developed a joint academic program in medicine. The universities are ready to launch an intensive exchange of students, which will cover at least 30 students each year. An application for the program's grant support has been submitted to the Government of Japan.
FEFU and Tokai University plan to exchange students who are enrolled in medical courses. They will be able to take both short-term two-week internships and longer ones—up to a year—at the Japanese university with the opportunity to transfer credits earned to their university. The FEFU Medical Center and the Tokai University Hospital will be the main venues for the training.
According to Vladimir Kurilov, FEFU Academic Supervisor, in accordance with the agreements between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, a special government fund has been established in the Ministry of Education of Japan to develop cooperation with Russian universities. One of the country's leading universities, Tokai University, which chose FEFU as its partner, has been entrusted to develop the first project.
Representatives of the two universities are also discussing the expansion of ties and the establishment of joint research units focused on research in the field of climate studies, genomic medicine, anthropology, and archeology. More details about the prospects for cooperation will be discussed during the visit of the large delegation of Tokai University, headed by its President, which is scheduled to take place in FEFU on 27-29 April.
Far Eastern Federal University and Tokai University are partners since 1989. Today, FEFU is intensively developing relationships with 37 leading research and education centres, government foundations, and major companies in Japan. Research, academic exchange, grant and scholarship support programs for talented students and scientists are being jointly implemented.
