Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) and Tokai University (Japan) have launched an academic exchange program. The first two-week internship in Tokyo is held for 15 students from all FEFU schools. The exchange program gave a start to a large-scale project to develop social and humanitarian relations between the two countries, which is being implemented with the support of the Government of Japan.

According to the Office of the FEFU Vice President for International Relations, during the internship students get acquainted with the economic, social, technological development of Japan, the education system, study culture and language, and Russian-Japanese relations in various fields. The return visit of 15 students of Tokai University will take place at the end of March and another 70 Japanese students will come to Vladivostok in summer 2018.

The exchange program is designed for four years and the participation of 220 students on either side. In the future, universities plan to launch longer internships, including for employees of the FEFU Medical Center and the hospital of the Tokai University.

The agreement on the exchange of students was signed by the FEFU President Nikita Anisimov and the President of the Japanese university Kiyoshi Yamada in 2017. Also, the partners jointly opened an international judo club on campus, where FEFU students, faculty and staff can be trained in martial arts. Now representatives of two universities are discussing the prospects for joint research projects in the field of climate studies, genomic medicine, anthropology, and laser technologies.

Under the agreement of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, a government foundation for the development of social and humanitarian relations between the two countries has been established in the Ministry of Education of Japan. One of the country's leading universities, Tokai University, which chose FEFU as its partner, has been entrusted to launch the first project.

Far Eastern Federal University develops links with more than 40 leading research and educational centers, state funds and the largest companies of Japan. The partnership implements research, academic exchange programs, grant and scholarship support for talented students and researchers.
