New opportunities for cooperation were presented by Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) at the APAIE 2018 in Singapore, the main education exhibition of Asia-Pacific region (APR). FEFU presented graduate programs in digital economy, cooperation within the framework of the Russky Technopark, and joint research on the Grand Challenges agenda to the partners.

According to Victoria Panova, FEFU Vice President for International Relations, the exhibition of the Asia-Pacific Association of International Education (APAIE) is, first of all, a venue for demonstrating the achievements of universities, as well as deepening the old and launching new partnerships between universities in the region. FEFU declared itself as a university, which is constantly moving forward and open for cooperation.

“At APAIE 2018, Far Eastern Federal University has demonstrated its growing role as a leading research and education center in the Asia-Pacific region,” said Victoria Panova. “Our new programs in digital economy have aroused considerable interest of our partners. FEFU remains leading institution in the area of Asian studies, center of of innovation and Russia's engagement with the region of Asia Pacific. Our exchange programs and summer schools for international students become ever more attractive. A number of universities have shown interest in cooperation within the framework of the Russky Technopark and conducting joint research on the Grand Challenges agenda.”

The participants of the APAIE round table for the Presidents of leading universities from all over the world, where the FEFU President Nikita Anisimov presented Russia, addressed the need to join the intellectual potential of the universities in order to overcome global challenges. The leaders of the universities looked into the need to offer young people new competences and soft skills in order to address those Grand Challenges, including the ones of the new age of the 4th Industrial revolution and digital economy. 

“The most important mission of our universities is to be above the state borders. We must not depend on political turbulance, we must create common future, solving together global problems, because we have the fate of a new generation in our hands. The generation of those to whom the future belongs,” Nikita Anisimov said at the meeting.

Victoria Panova mentioned the role of Russia in regional education cooperation at the APAIE session, initiated and developed by the 5top100 Project together with FEFU. The Vice President noted that today Far Eastern Federal University is the leader in export of Russian education in Asia Pacific, and invited presidents of leading universities of the region to discuss the development of student mobility at the APEC International Conference on Education, to be held in FEFU in September, 2018.

APAIE not only fostered enhanced ties, but gave start to real partnerships. FEFU concluded an agreement with Dankuk University (Republic of Korea) on the exchange of students and faculty, first of all, in language programs on the margins of the conference. It is planned that the first participants will go on internships as early as 2018. Talks with Konkuk University (Republic of Korea), University Kebangsaan (Malaysia), the University of Southern Queensland (Australia), the Chinese University of Hong Kong (China), Vietnam National University (Vietnam) are just a few to have mentioned.

APAIE is a non-profit organization established in 2004 to strengthen the internationalization of higher education and the development of research activities in the Asia-Pacific region. The APAIE Annual Conference and Exhibition is the main venue for the development of international education and university partnerships in Asia Pacific.

Far East Federal University is one of the leaders of internationalization of education in Russia; it develops links with more than 200 universities and research institutions from 38 countries. Mutual interest is reflected in joint research projects, student exchanges, scholarship and grant programs. Today more than 3,100 international students from 67 countries study at FEFU.
