Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) celebrates its 120th anniversary with a rich international program. The first in a series of events was the meeting “Experience and Prospects for Joint Cooperation between Russia and Japan in the Field of Business”, held at FEFU on October 18.

“Cooperation with Japanese partners, the study of the Japanese language and culture have traditionally been the priority areas of educational, scientific and international activities of Far Eastern Federal University since the founding of the Institute of Oriental Studies in 1899. It is a special honor for me to organize such a significant meeting in the framework of events dedicated to the 120th anniversary of FEFU, together with partners from Tokai University. An important element in the development of social and humanitarian cooperation is the FEFU offices in Tokyo and Tokai in Vladivostok. At today's session, government officials, business representatives, university employees share their experiences with the aim of developing practical recommendations for the development of bilateral cooperation”, said Victoria Panova, FEFU Vice-President for International Relations.

Consul General of Japan in Vladivostok Koichiro Nakamura and Chancellor of Tokai Kiyoshi Yamada congratulated FEFU on the anniversary. They also noted that today FEFU is a center of international education in the Russian Far East, a driver of the region’s innovative development. FEFU has entered into partnership agreements with more than 40 universities and research centers in Japan, conducts programs of academic mobility (both student and professor exchanges), joint research and projects. Japan is one of Russia's closest neighbors and an important partner for FEFU in the Asia-Pacific region

The key event will be the international symposium of university Presidents of the Asia-Pacific region, scheduled for October 20. Heads of leading partner universities from the Asia-Pacific countries specially arrive in Vladivostok to congratulate FEFU on the anniversary and discuss plans for further educational and scientific cooperation. Christopher Tremewan, Secretary General of the Association of Pacific Rim Universities, Chancellor of Tokai University (Japan), President of Pohang University of Science and Technology (Republic of Korea), First Vice-President of National University (Taiwan, China), Vice President of Vietnam National University (Vietnam), Vice President of Tokyo University of Agriculture (Japan), Vice President of Seoul National University (Republic of Korea) confirmed their participation,

The main celebrations in honor of the 120th anniversary of Far Eastern Federal University will be conducted from October 19 to 21. These days, the leading university in the Far East will celebrate the anniversary date from the founding of the Institute of Oriental Studies - the first higher educational institution in Eastern Siberia and the Far East, the successor of which is the modern FEFU.
