Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) is included in the Coordination Committee of the joint Russian-Vietnamese Tropical Research and Technology Center (Tropical Center). The corresponding decision was made at the 30-th meeting of the committee, held in Nha Trang (Republic of Vietnam) with the participation of FEFU representatives.

FEFU delegation included the Deputy Vice-President for Research - Director of the Department for Support of Research Activities Alexander Sergievich and Deputy Vice-President for International Relations Evgeny Vlasov. Joint research of the Tropical Center with FEFU will be carried out in three priority areas: biology, materials science, and medicine. It is also planned to organize courses and advanced training in the Russian language for the Vietnamese employees of the center on the basis of the FEFU Representative Office in Hanoi.

“This year, FEFU research teams submitted 5 applications for participation in the work of the Tropical Center, one of which has already been approved and entered the immediate research plan on interdisciplinary issues in the field of ecology and biology. It is planned to further expand the university’s presence in the field of real scientific interaction between the two countries”, said Alexander Sergievich.

According to Evgeny Vlasov, Deputy Vice-President for International Relations, Far Eastern Federal University has unique scientific and educational potential in the Asia-Pacific region. Moreover, the eastern vector of development allows integrating the capabilities of Russia and Vietnam on the basis of the Tropical Center as organically as possible. The development of scientific and technical ties, the promotion of the Russian language and culture, as well as the training of new personnel for joint projects will become one of the key areas of joint work.

The Chairman of the Coordination Committee and the head of the delegation, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Alexey Medvedev noted the high performance of the Tropical Center over the past year. He also said that in 2019, representatives of 31 Russian organizations took part in research at the center. This year, the number of expeditions is doubled, the number of scientific publications is increased.

The Russian-Vietnamese Tropical Research and Technology Center was established and has been operating since 1987. It is currently an important object of the strategic partnership between Russia and Vietnam in the field of science, technology, and military-technical cooperation. Over the 25-year period of activity, the Tropical Center has become an international, multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary scientific organization that has no analogs in the world.

Far Eastern Federal University is the leader in Russia in the number of students studying the Vietnamese language. The training of graduates in Vietnam has been conducted at the university since 1987. Also, FEFU Representative Office was opened in Vietnam on the basis of Vietnam National University in 2018.
