Kinross Gold Corporation (Canada) is interested in practical training of students and Far East Federal University (FEFU) research. FEFU President Nikita Anisimov; Igor Osipov, FEFU Endowment Foundation President, Advisor to FEFU President, and Claude Shimper, Kinross Gold Regional Vice-President of Russian operations, discussed the development of personnel and scientific cooperation on March 13. The meeting was attended by Alexander Becker, FEFU School of Engineering Director, and Evgeny Vlasov, FEFU Deputy Vice President for International Relations.

Kinross Gold is the largest international investor in the gold industry of Russia. Chukotskaya Mining and Geological Company, which is part of the Kinross Gold group of companies, implements a number of geological exploration and mining projects in the Chukchi Autonomous Region, one of which is the production of gold and silver in the Kupol deposit. At the end of 2017, the company concluded a memorandum of understanding with the university and the FEFU Endowment Foundation. It provides cooperation in practical training of students of the School of Engineering, including organization of work placements at the company's enterprises. The first visit to the unique Kupol gold mine will take place in May 2018.

“FEFU students will have an excellent opportunity to experience the work of one of the leading mining companies,” said Claude Shimper.  “We are constantly looking for talents, leaders, who will join our team. Kinross Gold is also interested in FEFU research in the field of mining, environmental protection, management, and the company's contribution to the social and economic development of the Far East.”

“FEFU and Kinross Gold have a really great potential for cooperation. We thank the partners for such interest to students, graduates and research opportunities of Far Eastern Federal University. We are sure that our researches will contribute to the growth and development of Kinross Gold enterprises in Russia,” said Nikita Anisimov.

A series of lectures by the employees of Kinross Gold is planned in addition to the practice sessions and research in FEFU. On March 13, Claude Shimper personally held his first class, telling students about the management of an industrial enterprise and career opportunities in the company.

“We are pleased to start practical implementation of the agreements reached in December last year. Today, all comers have been able to communicate with engineers, HR officers and managers of the largest innovative gold mining company in the Far East,” Igor Osipov said.
