The Annual Presidents Meeting of the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) was opened at the University of New South Wales (Sydney, Australia) on June 26. The Russian Federation at the international forum was represented by the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) Interim President Nikita Anisimov. For 20 years FEFU has remained the only Russian university in APRU.

The theme of the meeting of presidents is the future of the Asia Pacific region. At the plenary sessions and discussions, the participants discussed how leading universities can help the Asia Pacific countries to cope with climate change, social inequality, natural disasters, and growing migration. They also spoke on the margins of the forum about the development of international relations in the region in the view of the establishment of the Trans-Pacific Partnership, and the role of universities in strengthening cooperation between countries.

Nikita Anisimov had a busy program of participation in the forum's events. At one of the sections he had discussed the academic cooperation of FEFU with the leading universities of APRU. Interim President noted that the new system of organization of the university master's programs around global challenges completely fits into the strategy of the research and academic development of the association.

Following Sydney, APRU official events will move to Vladivostok. From 1 to 12 July, FEFU will host the summer school of APRU-FEFU Undergraduate Leaders' Program 2017. The youth program will be held in Russia for the first time and will bring together 50 participants from the strongest universities of China, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, Russia, Singapore, the United States, and Japan.

Students are waiting for a rich educational program at Far Eastern Federal University dedicated to the historical and cultural development of the Asia Pacific region, international relations, climate change, innovation, health, and development of the Arctic. The result of the school will be projects that young leaders will present to the APRU presidents and will implement within the university network.

The Association of Pacific Rim Universities was founded in 1997, and Far Eastern State University (now FEFU) became one of its founders. Today APRU unites 45 leading universities from Australia, Indonesia, Canada, China, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, Russia, Singapore, USA, Thailand, Taiwan, Philippines, Chile, and Japan.
