The first summer school under APRU Undergraduate Leaders' Program in Russia will be held at Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) from 1st to 12th July. The international academic program will bring together 50 representatives of the leading Pacific Rim universities. It is themed 'Global Challenges for New Generation in Asia-Pacific Region'.

According to the Office of FEFU Vice President for International Relations, participants to the Undergraduate Leaders' Program will be students from China, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, Russia, Singapore, the United States, and Japan. A rich education program has been prepared for them, and each day will be devoted to a separate theme: historical and cultural development of Asia Pacific region, international relations, global climate change, the Arctic, innovation, and health.

Lectures by the best FEFU teachers, members of the Model UN of the Russian Far East Club, invited experts, workshops, practical classes in laboratories, and excursions were presented to young leaders. The result of the school will be projects that participants will develop to inform the people of the Asia-Pacific countries about the global challenges to humanity and the sustainable development goals declared by the UN. These ideas will also be presented to the Presidents of the APRU member universities.

“At the APRU summer school, we will offer students the opportunity to develop projects that they may implement—in their home universities and cities,” said Vitaly Savenkov, the President of the Model United Nations of the Russian Far East Club, the FEFU School of Economics and Management postgraduate student. “We hope that the ideas that will appear at the school will grow into large international projects and help to combat the global challenges of our time.”

Association of Pacific Rim Universities was founded in 1997, and Far Eastern State University (now FEFU) became one of its founders. Today, APRU brings together 45 leading universities from Australia, Indonesia, Canada, China, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, Russia, Singapore, the United States, Thailand, Taiwan, the Philippines, Chile, and Japan. For 20 years, FEFU has remained the only representative of Russia in this prestigious association.

In 2013, for the first time in history, Far Eastern Federal University hosted the APRU Annual Presidents' Meeting. It was preceded by the youth forum, which led to the establishment of the APRU Youth Association at the initiative of FEFU students.
