The International Research and Education Center for Molecular Technologies was opened in the School of Biomedicine of Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) with the support of Russian Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor). The center will train professionals from Primorsky Krai and South-East Asian countries in modern methods of diagnosing infectious diseases.

Medical specialists, epidemiologists, and virologists will be certified in the center to work with innovative test systems to identify infectious agents. Advanced training of medical personnel will allow to quickly introduce the newest technologies into clinical practice.

“Today, Far Eastern Federal University is a significant player in the research, education, and innovation space of the Asia-Pacific region (APR). Biomedicine is one of the priority directions for the FEFU development, and researchers of the School of Biomedicine have already proved themselves at the international level,” said FEFU President Nikita Anisimov. “Major challenges for the new center are the dissemination of best practices, skills development, and training of Russian and international colleagues.”

The first trainees at the FEFU Center for Molecular Technologies were specialists from Vietnam. They were trained within the framework of Rospotrebnadzor's implementation of the program to assist Vietnam in combating the threats of infectious diseases.

According to Mikhail Schelkanov, head of the scientific Laboratory for the Ecology of Microorganisms, FEFU School of Biomedicine, it is necessary to exchange experience, to bring together the methods of assessment, to conduct joint research, and to upgrade qualifications in order to combat pandemic threats.
