Students of Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) will represent Russia at the largest international conference: the National Model United Nations 2018 in the United States. They got the tickets for the world forum thanks to the victory in the Forum of Young Leaders, which was held in FEFU with the participation of 60 students from Russia, the Republic of Korea, Japan, Indonesia, and Pakistan.

The delegates discussed issues of global importance in the role of foreign diplomats by modeling the work of the existing United Nations (UN) bodies. Issues of cybercrime, social exclusion of women, peace on the Korean peninsula, international security, rational use of water resources and others were on the agenda.

According to the results of the conference of the main awards—the titles of 'outstanding delegate'—were awarded to students of the Oriental Institute–Schools of Regional and International Studies Alexey Stanonis (representing Russia), Veronika Tkachenko (USA) and a student of the School of Economics and Management Diana Tereshchenko (Germany). They will take part in the main youth conference, which will be held at the UN headquarters in New York.

“Participation in this conference is an invaluable experience for young leaders. They will be able to exchange views with 5,000 diplomats from all over the world in the very heart of the UN. This is indeed a serious challenge that motivates students to further develop further,” said Vitaly Savenkov, PhD student at the FEFU School of Economics and Management, director of the Model UN of the Russian Far East Club.

The Vladivostok branch of the Model UN of the Russian Far East is based on the campus of Far Eastern Federal University and is one of the largest youth organizations in the region. Students develop leadership skills, learn the art of negotiation and regularly hold conferences on the real rules of the world organization through such an element of learning as a Model UN debate. FEFU students have been participating in the National Model UN since 2011. The diplomats from Vladivostok were twice awarded the main award of the world conference.
