Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) will make a significant contribution to addressing the spread of HIV/AIDS in the Asia-Pacific region (APR). The Center of Molecular Technologies for training professionals in laboratory diagnosis of Asian countries will open in FEFU in the summer of 2018. Combining the efforts of states in combating dangerous virus has become the main theme of the 6th Eastern Europe and Central Asia AIDS Conference (Moscow), attended by Victoria Panova, FEFU Vice President for International Relations.

At the forum, scientists, politicians, and experts from 100 countries have prepared proposals for increasing the effectiveness of national HIV/AIDS programs. The FEFU Vice President spoke at a panel discussion on international projects in the field of public health and combating major epidemics. The organizers of the conference were the Russian Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) and the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS).

“The densely populated Asia-Pacific region, urbanization, and the growth of cross-border population movements create favorable conditions for the rapid spread of dangerous infections. To deal with threats, experts from Asian countries need to exchange experience, harmonize evaluation methods, improve skills, and implement the international health regulations,” said Victoria Panova. “Such conferences and the implementation of such projects as the FEFU Centre of Molecular Technologies are a real opportunity to consolidate the efforts of countries in combating the HIV/AIDS epidemic.”
