Oct 12, 2017 - Science and innovations

The All-Russian Science Festival—a major event for the popularization of scientific knowledge and technology—will be held in Vladivostok October 27-28. Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) will become the main regional venue for the festival and will host researchers and developers from all over the Russian Far East. All comers are welcome to the FEFU campus on Russky Island; the entrance will be free.

The motto of the Festival of Science this year will be 'Big Data'. According to Ivan Zemchenko, the coordinator of the event in Vladivostok, a huge amount of information is a feature of modern society. And the task of the festival is to show the edge, when the data streams turn into understandable objects, systems, and phenomena.

“The Festival of Science in Vladivostok is an opportunity to see in person the modern advances in technology and in different sciences. Science today is inseparable from our life, we are surrounded by new knowledge and technologies everywhere,” Ivan Zemchenko pointed out. “Now you have a chance to visit the main scientific event of the autumn and see all the most relevant within a few days. Moreover, it is important that the festival has no age restrictions. Do come with families, with kids, grandfathers and grandmothers—it will be interesting to everyone!”

The festival program includes an exhibition of technologies, an experimentarium (i.e. what real experiments look like), lectures and master classes, meetings with scientists, and excursions in the laboratories. The guests will learn about Russian and international developments, take part in different experiments, immerse themselves in virtual reality and create their own robot.

Special events of the festival will be: the scientific show, the 'Pusk' festival of technological art, the 'Science Slam Vladivostok' scientific standup show, 'The Brodsky Cat' literary show, the Robotics Tournament and the semifinal of the 'UMNIK' innovative projects' competition.

Students and faculty of Far Eastern universities will present design-engineering programs and offer to spend time in an original way: for example, take part in cockroach races with controlled chips or see the levitation of solid objects in a gaseous atmosphere.
