The Center of Reproductive Biology will be established at Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) with the support of the leading biomedical centers in Europe. Researchers of the School of Biomedicine (SBM) and experts of the FEFU Medical Center will be engaged in the newest area of research for the Far East—issues of genetic health of the offspring using the most modern technologies. 

“This is a unique research area for our region. While there are several centers of in vitro fertilization (IVF) in Vladivostok now, genetic screening in the scope of opportunities available at FEFU is not done anywhere else, except for the central regions of Russia,” said Igor Bryukhovetsky, head of the Laboratory of Molecular and Cellular Neurobiology, FEFU SBM. “The School of Biomedicine has equipment for whole-genome sequencing (gene analysis), proteomic, transcriptomic, and bioinformatic studies. In fact, we can do a whole sequencing and answer all questions about possible genetic pathologies for those who use IVF.”

Reproductive biology is one of the key areas in modern biomedicine. Igor Bryukhovetsky explained that genetic screening (analysis) of embryos, cells, cell cultures, and gametes is used in IVF. New methods of analysis, preimplantation diagnostics, unique technologies of cell program modification (epigenetic reprogramming) solve the problem of infertility and allow to have biologically healthy offspring even to patients of cancer hospitals. 

The FEFU Center of Reproductive Biology will be created with the support of the Arnaud de Villeneuve Hospital and the University Hospital of Montpellier (France). The cooperation was decided to begin with a research project: the details were discussed during the work placement of the School of Biomedicine researchers in France. European colleagues expressed their readiness to share their experience with FEFU researchers and to accept them for an internship. In the future, it is possible to open a joint master's program in reproductive medicine with the direct participation of distinguished physician Professor Samir Hamama, the head of Arnaud de Villeneuve Hospital. 

Igor Bryukhovetsky notes that the unique equipment of the FEFU School of Biomedicine, the capabilities of the Medical Center, and cooperation with the leading clinics of Europe will make it possible to create reproductive and regenerative medicine of the world level in the Far East in the coming years.
