The coming New Year Festival in folk tradition was celebrated by the international students of the Far Eastern Federal University Center of Russian Language and Culture. About 400 participants from countries in Asia, South America, the Middle East, and Europe plunged into the atmosphere of the main winter holiday along with Ded Moroz (Santa Claus), Snegurochka (Snow Maiden), and other fairy tale characters.

Russian songs, games, round dances, folk fun and frolics were organized for the participants by the artists of the Krinitsa ensemble. As this is with all New Year Tree parties, the main characters had to "be called". According to tradition, the students shouted until they were heard by Ded Moroz and Snegurochka, having appeared in the hall they brought many gifts and organized various contest games.

According to the organizers, the international trainees of the Center of Russian Language and Culture, who came to Russia for the first time from 30 states, were interested to learn more about one of the most massive and bright holidays.

"Such New Year Festivals have already become traditional for the FEFU Center of Russian Language and Culture. Last year, 200 persons participated in them, and current one is twice as much," said Irina Cherepovskaya, Director of the Center of Russian Language and Culture. "Our students study in Russia for one or two months and we pay special attention to their adaptation in a new country. We have recently completed the Month of Russian Culture: Faculty acquainted international students with the traditions of the country, cuisine and national costumes, taught to play folk instruments, dance, and sing Russian songs."

Far Eastern Federal University has admitted more than 3,200 applicants from 52 countries in the new academic year. A series of adaptation events was held for them as with the Russian  freshmen, and one of the most striking events has become the Days of  Interethnic Student Unity, which took place in FEFU at the end of  November.
