Student of Far East Federal University (FEFU) from Vietnam Vo Van Tien became a bronze medalist at the Open International Student Internet Olympiad in Mathematics. The final tour took place in Yoshkar-Ola (Republic of Mariy-El) with the participation of 105 students from all Federal Districts of Russia, as well as Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, and Slovenia.

The FEFU sophomore Vo Van Tien passed two remote qualifying rounds of the Olympiad in Vladivostok, where he showed the best result in the Far East. In the final, students solved the tasks in writing, and the assignments were checked by members of the international jury, the leading Russian and international scholars. Vo Van Tien successfully coped with five out of seven tasks, which was enough for the bronze medal.

“The tasks were interesting and challenging. I really like math, so I try to participate in all student's Olympiads. Traveling to other cities is also a great opportunity to see the country, to become acquainted with the Russian culture,” said Vo Van Tien. “I am glad that I came to study in Russia, there are strong teachers and very sympathetic people.”

Vo Van Tien started seriously practicing mathematics at school, in his native Vietnamese Quang Ngay City. Thanks to his excellent knowledge, he entered the Nuclear Physics and Technology Program at FEFU and received a personal government scholarship. According to the student, he chose this area to learn how to apply mathematics in other fields of knowledge.

The Olympiad Organizing Committee emphasized Vo Van Tien's high level of training and awarded the Federal University the honorary title Winner of the Open International Student Internet Olympiad, 2017.

This is not the first successful performance by the FEFU Vietnamese student in the Olympiads. In September 2016, he also won the bronze award of the international competition in mathematics, the final of which was held at Ariel University (Israel).
