Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) confirmed the right to participate in the Project of the Competitiveness Enhancement of the Leading Russian Universities among Global Research and Education Centers (5top100 Project). The FEFU management team, headed by the President Nikita Anisimov, successfully defended the university's roadmap for 2018-2020 before the international expert council chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Olga Golodets.

The meeting of the Council was held in Yekaterinburg on October 27-28. Twenty-three universities participating in the 5top100 Project presented their three-year plans of measures to implement programs to increase competitiveness. The Council paid special attention to the analysis of the results of the universities' participation in the program and the existence of a clear system of development priorities.

Far Eastern Federal University was the first to defend the roadmap. The outstanding scientist, the scientific supervisor of the FEFU Far Eastern Climate Smart Lab Riccardo Valentini, was the keynote speaker.

Starting from 2014 FEFU has been involved in the implementation of the program to improve competitiveness, becoming the only university in the East of Russia, which received the right to participate in the 5top100 Project. By 2020, the government of the Russian Federation expects the emergence of a group of Russian leading universities with an effective governance structure and an international academic reputation, able to meet international trends and to promptly respond to global changes.
