The 14-th Festival of Russian culture “Hakodate Rosia Matsuri” took place at FEFU branch in Hakodate on July 16, 2011. The Council General of the Russian Federation in Sapporo Mr. Vasiliy Saplin opened the Festival, and the Director of the branch Mr. Sergey Ilyin read out the welcoming address from FEFU President Dr. Vladimir Miklushevskiy.

The Festival concurred with two other cultural events: The Days of Russian Culture, the official opening ceremony of which was held in Hakodate, and 150-th anniversary of the educational activity of Saint Nikolay Yaponskiy, equal to the apostles, whose name is inseparably linked with Hakodate. Therefore, the program of the Festival this year was very interesting: apart from traditional Russian food, choir performance and a student rock-band, express Russian language courses, the workshop for Russian dolls painting and souvenir stand, the independent program was held by the parish of the oldest in Japan Temple of Hakodate. Inside the “Russkiy Mir” foundation there was an exhibition of the unique photomaterials, devoted to the life of Saint Nikolay; also guests were impressed by the performance of Orthodox choir. In spite of bad weather, there were about 600 people who actively participated in all the games and educational programs.
