The President of Far Eastern Federal University Dr. Vladimir Miklushevskiy had a meeting with the Ambassador of Chile in Russia Dr. Juan Eduardo Egugiren Gusman on August 31. The main aim of the Ambassador’s visit was getting acquainted with preparation of Vladivostok for APEC meeting to be held in 2012.

Dr. Vladimir Miklushevskiy told the Ambassador about the process of establishing Far Eastern Federal University, its educational programs, plans for the future in the sphere of cooperation with foreign institutions:

— Nowadays about 1000 foreign students study at FEFU. According to the University Program of Development, this number should increase to 7500 by 2019. Also our plans include long-term internships of the faculty abroad and academic exchanges of researchers, — Dr. Vladimir Miklushevskiy informed.

Dr. Juan Eduardo Egugiren Gusman visited Vladivostok for the first time and was very impressed:

— I am astonished by the scope of the construction underway. About 20 years ago Vladivostok was a very closed city, and in 2012 it will be open to the whole world. The cooperation with your city is very important for our country, Vladivostok has strong power within Asia-Pacific Rim, including the sphere of education. We are ready for collaboration, — noted the Ambassador of Chile.

Chile was the first Latin American country to establish its Consulate in Vladivostok in 2005. The decision of Russian Federation and Chile about the visa-free entry will serve as an additional incentive for establishing mutually advantageous contacts between Vladivostok and the cities of Chile.
