Young chess players from different cities fought for the title of the best grand chess master of the Far East of Russia in Vladivostok. All the players showed proficiency, logics, the ability to think strategically and to react fast, — all that is necessary for the highest level of a chess player. The winners of the competition got the right to presents the Far East at the Major League of the Russian Federation.
The formal opening of the Far Eastern championship on classic chess took place in FEFU School of Engineering. The first persons of the university and the members of the panel of judges wished the players good luck:
— I am glad to see all of you in the Far Eastern Federal University, — the FEFU President Dr. Vladimir Miklushevskiy greeted the players. — In less than a year we will move to the new campus on Island Russkiy which is the most up-to-date campus n Russia and one of the best in the world. The contents of educational process and students’ life will change and improve, but I can tell for sure that we will always pay much attention to the development of sports. I will be happy to see you as students of Far Eastern Federal University!
For the first time there was a judge of international category, the chairman of the Qualification Commission Committee of the Chess Federation Mr. Mikhail Kryukov who congratulated the players and their fans on this “chess holiday”. After that, the President of the Far Eastern Chess Federation Mr. Valeriy Petukhov announced the official opening of the tournament.
Young chess players were divided into several age categories — from 8 to 18. But even the youngest participants of the Far Eastern chess tournament already have many awards. Of course, all the chess players are actively supported by their parents and teachers. As the teacher of the Sports School №1 of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy Mr. Evgeniy Berezhevskiy says, the participation in such serious competitions shows the high level of players’ mastership.
— From 24 players from Kamchatka 5 are my students, and they all play in different age categories, — tells the teacher. — Some of them already have great results — many players took the first prizes in different tournaments of the Far East, became champions of Kamchatskiy Krai and participated in the championship of Russia. From the point of view of sports, participating in the championships of Russia is very prestige and interesting, and this is the main goal of participating in different tournaments of selective character.
