On January, 24 the FEFU President Dr. Vladimir Miklushevskii met with the delegation, consisting of the Ambassador of India in Russia Mr. Ajai Malhotra and representatives of the Consulate of India in Vladivostok: Consul General, Ms. Gina Uika and Consul, Mr. Rajesh Yuika. From the Russian side at the meeting FEFU was represented by Deputy Vice-President for International Affairs Dr. Alexey Starichkov and Deputy Director of the School of Regional and International Studies Ms. Anna Hamatova.
Telling the distinguished guests about the University, its new campus, Program of Development and priority areas Dr. Vladimir Miklushevskii dwelled upon the details of the internationalization of education:
— We plan to increase the number of international students to 7500. We could double this number even now, but the main problem is the lack of student dormitories as in all Russian universities. Moving to the Island Russkiy this year will solve this problem: 11000 students will be accommodated there plus they will have a chance to live in the student dormitories on the continent. Thereby we will probably become the only university in Russia without lack of student dormitories.
Deputy Vice-President for International Affairs Dr. Alexey Starichkov informed the members of the delegation about the FEFU new educational programs in English:
— 10 Master Programs will be launched at FEFU in 2012: «Marine biodiversity and aquatic environment preservation», «Archaeology of North Pacific region», «Russia in Asian-Pacific region: policy, economy, security», «International commercial and investment law», «National — ethnic education», «Project management», «Tourism», «Hydrotechnical construction», «Graphic design», «Biotechnology of food from herbal raw material». Courses in English are worked out together with the leading Russian and foreign universities: University of California (Berkeley), University of Wisconsin — Madison, The University of Maryland, Moscow State Institute of International Relations, Higher School of Economics etc. Launching the program in pharmaceutics together with Griffith University (Australia) and also «Theoretical physics» and «Nuclear medicine» in partnership with Osaka University and «Kurchatov Institute» is in the perspective for 2013/14 academic year.
Information about the FEFU international educational programs interested the Ambassador very much because Indian students form the absolute majority of foreign students from all over the world:
— Our students study in foreign universities with great pleasure. Many Indian students come to Russia and learn the Russian language. I know that the FEFU new programs in English will be interesting for Indian students and they’ll come to study such areas in Vladivostok.
