Two correspondents from the German radio ARD Heide-Maria Rasche and Stella Prudon had a meeting with FEFU Vice-President for International Affairs Dr. Andrey Babko. As they said, the Germans are interested in the people’s life in such a huge country as Russia. One of the news items on their radio will be devoted to the development of higher education in the Russian Far East, that’s why the correspondents appealed to the largest university in the region.

German reporters had a chance to visit the new FEFU campus on island Russkiy. They were impressed by the scope of construction and the new university buildings. Dr. Andrey Babko informed the guests about the future move of the campus to the island:

- Nowadays FEFU has about 100 buildings for various purposes. It’s very inconvenient that they all are located in different parts of the city. On the island all buildings will be nearby. Apart from that, here we have a problem with students’ accommodation. On the island there will be enough rooms for everyone. By 2019 we are planning to increase the number of foreign students from China, South Korea, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia and other countries. 10 educational programs in English will be introduced at FEFU and that will help the university to become really international.

The German guests asked if the university would move to the island Russkiy in case if APEC Meeting 2012 took place not in Vladivostok, but in some other city. Dr. Andrey Babko answered:

- The university wouldn’t have enough money for construction of the new campus. The campus on island Russkiy is a real gift of the Russian government. Nowadays there are 9 universities of federal status in Russia, and FEFU is one of the largest ones. You should notice the dynamics of development of Vladivostok and the Far East of Russia.

Stella Prudon shared her impressions about the new campus:

- During the excursion to the new FEFU campus we were told that the builders had to drain the bogs. I remembered the way Peter I constructed Saint Petersburg. So, I think the changes at FEFU can be compared with the reforms of the emperor.

The meeting lasted about an hour; Dr. Andrey Babko and the German guests talked about different aspects of the university and the Vladivostok life. As both correspondents admit, they liked good nature and openness of the Vladivostok people and in spite of the cold weather, they will return home with only the warmest impressions.
