The first stage of the “Intensive English” initiative has come to an end at Far Eastern Federal University, and the professors that took part in this program will help launch the university’s international master’s degree programs in the 2012-13 school year.
Last fall, FEFU professors participated in an English language aptitude test, after which they were divided into two groups of different skill levels. They then went through intensive training in English for three months and had another month of preparation for IELTS.
In the end, 80 professors successfully passed the IELTS exam (40 more to pass by the end of April) and will now participate in a study program (from April to September) at FEFU foreign partner universities, in Australia, the USA, Norway, New Zealand, Ireland and Great Britain.
To make the English language training more effective FEFU acquired teaching materials from leading world publishers such as Touchstone, New English File, Enterprise, IELTS (Preparatory Courses). Additionally, the FEFU School of the Humanities building ( Aleutskaya ul., 56) is now equipped with 9 multimedia and lingaphone classrooms with a capacity of 95 students.
The second stage of the “Intensive English” project will begin on the 28th of April. Approximately 300 professors and members of FEFU have already applied to study English. They will be divided into groups after completing an aptitude test that is taking place now. From May through the summer, there will be intensive language training abroad and at FEFU.
