Both Russian and foreign students are now able to enroll in international master’s degree programs at FEFU.

There are not many Russian universities where you can study in a fully English-language program, taught by world-famous professors to earn a master’s degree of unique specialization. Far Eastern Federal University, however, now offers such an opportunity. In the fall 2012, FEFU, in cooperation with leading American and Australian universities, will start offering 10 international master’s degree programs across all FEFU schools.

These programs include:

  • Engineering School – “Offshore and Coastal Engineering”;
  • School of Natural Sciences – “Marine Biodiversity and Aquatic Environment Conservation”;
  • Law School – “International Trade and Investment Law”;
  • School of Economics and Management – “Hospitality Management” and “Project Management”;
  • School of Biomedicine – “Food and Beverage Science”;
  • School of Pedagogics – “Cultural Diversity in Education”;
  • School of the Humanities – “Archaeology of Northern Pacific”;
  • School of Art, Culture and Sports – “Graphic Design”;
  • School of Regional and International Studies – “Russia in the Asia-Pacific: Politics, Economics, and Security”.

All the necessary regulations and documents are ready, and the arrangements for foreign faculty involvement are established. The FEFU international education programs are ready to be launched. There’s also an incentive system for FEFU Russian faculty who will deliver courses in English.

FEFU teachers are undergoing professional trainings to best facilitate the organization of this high-level educational process. They receive training on different specializations in a multidisciplinary environment. They are developing their English language competence at specially arranged courses. In the first wave of trainings, 80 people attended these courses, and in the second series, which is now underway, 270 more teachers are studying English.

Each English language course ends with an IELTS exam in the summer. According to their IELTS score, the teachers will have study placements in foreign partner universities. Some teachers already had their placements in spring, but the majority will go abroad and prepare their academic courses in English in the summer.

Apart from developing their skills of teaching in English, FEFU teachers have had courses on the elaboration of educational materials for master’s degree programs (according to the Bologna system) and the implementation of a LMS (Learning Management System). They were taught under the guidance of the specialists from Central European University (Budapest, Hungary), FEFU Office of the President for International Affairs and the Department of Information Technologies.

Far Eastern Federal University is also actively working to attract foreign faculty and scientists. The university received about 200 applications from specialists from all over the world who are interested in working at FEFU. At present, a specially arranged committee, under the guidance of Vice-President for Academic Affairs Mr. Vladimir Kurilov, is considering candidates and making decisions about employment. Under this committee, it has already been decided that four foreign professors are coming to FEFU in fall 2012:  Vinod Aggarwal (the USA), Ruben Azizian (the USA), David Tien (Australia) and Paul Richardson (Japan).
